How to get the wavy look from sleeping with braided hair?

I know some girls can braid their hair before they go to bed and wake up and un-do it and it looks perfect. Do they add like leave in conditioner in aswell? Or something to help hold it when they take it out? I want to do this- and have tried but I never think it looks good enough to rock.... help

Well, I have been doing this for years since my hair is dead-straight (people ask me where I go to straighten my hair but its natural) and i like more depth. It works well (I've had the waves in for days at a time) and is really simple.

Wash your hair right before you go to bed. If you use conditioner, put that in too.

While your hair is still wet, comb it smooth and braid tightly (I do 3 braids in my hair - it looks rediculous but no one will be seeing you anyways). Go to sleep.

When you wake up (if you rush in the morning set ur alarm a bit earlier than usual) dont take the braids out just yet. They will probably be a bit messy but that wont alter it at all. However, if it bothers you put a shower cap on over the braids while you sleep. Anyways, if you have a spray bottle (like an empty Windex or something) rinse it out and fill with water. Spritz you hair till it is slightly damp (if you have no spray bottle just pat water onto it) and plug your hair dryer in. On low setting (cool if you have it) blow your hair while its still in the braids. Then, with the hair dryer still going, undo the braids carefully and run you fingers through your hair (dont comb as this will take the wave out). Flip your hair over your head and blow dry the back. Then stop the blow dryer and get ready as normal.

Really, if you have any cool setting at all on your dryer, use it. Cold air will help lock in the wave. I have a dryer with a cold blaster thing on it. But it will be fine if you just dry on the lowest setting. It works reall well and your hair flows in neat waves, not messy. If you want more, try french braiding instead. Hope this helps!

i occasionally do that, despite the fact that i already have wavy hair. i use aussie's catch the wave leave in conditioner/mousse before i braid my hair while its still damp. when you wake up, make sure not to brush it! it will become frizzy. also, dont just make two braids. make at least three so the waves will be evenly distributed.

i take out my braids and then i apply some coconut oil after, it looks perfect but becareful with the coconut oil, a little bit is fine, too much makes your hair look extremely oily

i do that sometimes. you don't need to add anything. you should wash your hair and then braid it.

put detangler in your hair before you braid it. Then in the mornign just use a beach comb to make it look perfect it should be really wavy.

i have been a hair dresser for 15 years and your hair needs to be long and wet to pull that off after you wash your hair put in some gel or moose use enough to cover your braids and go to sleep when you wake up un do it and you will have that look p.s try to let it dry a bit before going to bed.
