Black women and your hair?

okay....im actually biracial. but when i was 9...my mom put a perm in my hair. she got the wrong kind...on purpose. because my mom is black and my dad is white...we got a bonus..like a 2 for the price of one...and i didnt have course hair at the time. but she got the course kind cuz thats the kind she needed. when she was done..my hair wasnt even straight. and ever since..my hair has been wrecked...and it has never been the same soft wavy hair i had. im 13 now. please....tell me...how to take care of my hair? i live with my dad...and he doesnt know anything. please answer all these questions.

1. what shampoo and conditioner do i use?

2. is it okay for me to straighten my hair everyday as long as i use a protectant?

3. what do i do to make my hair shiny again?

4. how can i comb my hair when its dry...cuz then it just turn into an afro

5. my hair has split all the way up to the roots...im getting it cut...as it grows. how can i make it grow faster?

6. whats the cost for good stuff

Black women and your hair?

okay girl i will help u cause my daughter is mixed so i know whats up plus my hair is like a spanish girls hair probally cause i have some Portuguese blood so her is what u need okay

paddle brush (never brush hair when its dry)

a wide tooth comb to comb ur hair after its wet start always in the back of the head first

coconut oil to grease ur head or ur scalp-use a nice rat tail comb to separate sections and just put a little on ur head

Queen Helene cholesterol and a shower cap-this is a nice deep conditioner just follow directions on jar

now for shampoo and conditoner Pantene makes stuff for ethnic hair and it works really nice get their shampoo and conditioner

u need a leave in spray for ur hair Biolage makes shining milk spray that works great on my daughter

okay now u can straighten ur hair as much as u want if you use a thermal spray

careful with the blowdryer getting too close to ur scalp

and most important if you have split ends they must be removed by a haircut ..they don't go away they cause further breakage.

now to make ur hair nice and smooth on a daily basis u need some castor oil for the hair...after u wash condition spray with leave in conditioner u put some castor oil on the palm of ur hand and then u can pull it through ur hair..then u can separate ur hair with clips and slowly blowdry with paddle brush or a round brush to smooth out ur hair

the biggest trick i can tell u is to take the hair and blowdry it under this closes the cuticle resulting in a smoother shinier look

now since you have black in you i have to say don't wash ur hair everday girl depending on how curly ur hair is i would say maybe twice a week and u should be doing cholesterol treatment at least once a week....u have to take a scarf once ur hair is straight and wrap it around ur head..then sleep that way or buy a satin pillowcase and touch it up in the morning

i hope this helps if you have any questions just email me

i not only have course curly hair myself but my daughter has very curly frizzy hair that breaks so i have to take care of it all the time

i am also going to school for this stuff so i know cold hard facts i can tell you

to make ur hair grow just take vitamins everyday and only cut hair when u have split ends or every 12 weeks

Hmmm....looks like you'll need to keep getting perms. Or, you can shave your hair off and let it grow back (it'll be just like when you were born).

EDIT

The perm does not penetrate the scalp. TRUST ME. There is no hair chemical on earth that will completely penetrate the scalp. The problem is, only the hair that made direct contact with the chemicals were damaged.

Black women and your hair?

That same thing happened to my mom, I use pantene for women of color, might want to cut back on using heat on your head every single day. You may need to go to a salon once a month, it sounds like you need a hot oil treatment. Make sure you get those ends trimmed every 6 weeks, you should try some Kemi Oil on your hair to keep it from getting dry. thats really all I can think of for right now.....and it does seem like you need to continue to get perms now...(my mom had to) I would suggest Creme of Nature, regular....or pink oil moisturizer.

Black women and your hair?

I just want to point out that your hair changes in your life, i had striahgt hair when i was little now its curly. the perm treatment cannot change the DNA structure of your hair. your hair changed thats all. try to not use a straightner that much, its worse on your hair, let it be curly. you cannot make your hair grow faster, sorry. as for hair products, they have a whole line of products for women of color and a lot are awsome, just take a look in your local pharmacy.

good luck

Black women and your hair?

girl run and go get some black hair magazines and ebony and essence magazines!

to get your straight hair back the natural way would be just to let your hair go out!

Ion products would be the best for you because they work well with any hair! look in Sally's Beauty Salon or goggle them online!

It's ok to straighten your as long as you use heat protection just make sure you get a good curling iron with a gold plate. Dont buy those cheap ones they never work as good.

Get a silk pillow case or a silk head wrap! your hair will be fabulous in the morning.

also get a hair dryer with a diffuser! it will help with the frizziness.

The best thing to do with split ends is to not brush your hair when it's wet! keep it moisturize and to keep trimming it.

if you got any other questions email me at elleangeleyes@yahoo.com

Black women and your hair?

Im not biracial but I can recomend some sites to you:

http://www.nappturality.com (sisters on the site are from all ethnicities, including many biracial sisters)

http://www.curlmart.com (site that has many products for sisters with curly hair)

http://www.mixedchicks.net/index.html (website founded by biracial women that offers tips and products to use)

Hope some of that helps. I had a question for you, for #3, why do you want to straighten your hair everyday? Also, the question black women and "your" hair, as a biracial person, what exactly do you identify with? Black, White, Other? Just curious.

Black women and your hair?

Your mom didn't mess up your hair. 4 years is plenty of time for an entire new head of hair to grow back and replace the damaged hair on your head which she may have caused by the improper perming. What happened was puberty kicked in and the soft baby hair stopped growing and an your adult hair started growing in.

I have no advice on how to take care of your hair. I just wanted to sort that out.

Black women and your hair?

My daughter is mixed, she's 3 and I would never dream of perming her soft spirials.

For you it will take some work, but it isn't impossible.

Shampoo I'd recommend Paves, I use it, I swear by it, also the deep repaiting conditioner in that line.

You need a reconstructor, protein enriched, and a deep moisturizing one too... I use Optimum Care

For your scalp, try a mixture of pure aloe vera gel and water, it'll help heal the damage.

For your hair, I suggest natural oils like olive and almond.

Wash your hair less often, condition it more, don't straighten it so often, heat fries the hair, don't comb it while its dry, only when its wet, or saturated in hair lotion or detangler, and only with a wide toothed comb.

all together it should cost about $35, not a bad price for beautiful hair.

Black women and your hair?

I'm mixed too! The first thing would be to stop getting perms. And to talk to a professional about managing your type of hair.

Black women and your hair?

OK - 1 - A perm cannot permanently ruin your hair. It's been four years, and the problem is you don't know how to take care of it. At 9 years old, I doubt you were paying attention to what relaxer your mother bought - had she bought the one for coarse hair, your hair would have been bone straight, and possibly would have fallen out. (the word is spelled coarse, btw) And she did it on purpose? Stop listening to one sided stories. Now haircare: I'll tell you what I use: KeraCare.

Protectant? Straighten Everyday? That's why your hair is jacked. Doll, your dad may be white, but you are not and you don't have "white" hair. If you've been straightening your hair daily, YOU ruined it. YOU CANNOT BLOWDRY YOUR HAIR STRAIGHT, AND BLACK HAIR IS NOT WASHED DAILY. No one's hair should. You need to start putting oil in your hair if you want to comb it easy. Yes, OIL. I like KeraCare or Caprilex for my hair (KeraCare Essential Oils, KeraCare Oil Moisturizer With Jojoba Oil) Your best is to go to a salon. A Black hair care salon. They would know exactly what to do for you. While a white hairdresser may have been taught to do Black hair-care, they may never jhave actually done it. Judging by what you wrote - you fried your own hair - daily washing, straightening (and I'm willing to to bet it's with a blow dryer, or flat iron - probably not the right one)

Word to the wise - Being biracial does not guarantee silky hair. I happen to have curly hair, but my cousin doesn't. You are a product of two different race people. Just as your skin tone is somewhere between your two parents, so is your hair type. If mom's hair is really "coarse" there's just so straight your hair will be naturally. Bottom line is you still have to use Black haircare methods. I'm biracial, too, and when I walk into a salon, I don't came in with "I'm biracial...," it doesn't tell your hair type.

And if you use oils, you'll be able to control the "bigness"
